Why Childhelp National Day of Hope?
Child welfare is a touchy subject in the United States with a lot of nuances, emotions, and complexities. It feels like something’s off about how we approach this issue. Who decides what is worthy of funding and how? What role do citizens have in this process? Shouldn’t families and communities work together instead of digging themselves into deeper financial holes?
Child welfare has been a hot-button issue in the U.S. for decades. In the ’90s, several anti-child labor laws were enacted to cur curb child labor in the manufacturing industry. These efforts were somewhat successful, but many still feel that more needs to be done.
The anniversary of this day of Hope has initially been created to bring awareness to the nation’s inability to adequately support its most basic obligations toward its most vulnerable citizens and honor the potential of every child in our community.
We are all connected in some way or another. Whether it’s through family, friends, or communities, we can all be uplifted by others’ stories of triumph over adversity. This day reminds us that the strength of our communities comes from providing opportunities for kids to thrive.
This day is observed to honor all children who have been negatively affected by their parent’s inability to provide for them. On this day, individuals can reflect on their own failures as parents and actions they can take to help prevent such tragedies from happening to other young people in their future.
