The apricot is actually a small tree that is around 8–12 m in height. The fruit of apricot tree is basically a drupe which is similar to that of peach.The flesh of apricot is not juicy.It consist of only a single seed which is covered by a stony,hard shell type, denoted as “kernel”.
Apricot is a great source of Vitamin C and Vitamin A.Each 100 grams of raw apricots constitutes around 86 percent of water.remaining are of carbohydrates,protein and fat.

In the United States,it is commercially produced in states like california,Utah and washington.California ranks first over Utah and Washington.
The major producer of Apricot is Uzbekistan covering around 16 percent of the world’s productions.Other prominent producers are turkey,iran,italy,Algeria,pakistan and Spain contributing a considerable percentage.The major producer of dried apricot is Turkey.
A hybrid variety of apricot and cherry plum called purple apricot or black apricot is quite famous.other notable hybrid varieties are apriplums,plumcots etc.
For commercial purpose the fruit is dried and treated with sulfur dioxide,because of this,the color changes to vivid orange.Otherwise,the color will be bit darker.
