In the United States, April 12 is referred to as “National Big Wind Day.” This Day, as per history, celebrates April 12, 1934, the measurement of the highest natural strong wind observed on the surface of the planet: 231 mph at Mount Washington Station.

Why National Big Wind Day?

On heavy windy days, we all feel like we need to put pebbles in our pockets when heading outdoors so that we don’t get blown away. Windstorms demonstrate nature’s immense force; they may be fatal, hazardous, and destructive.

Although gusts of that speed would be so powerful for current wind energy equipment to handle, it provides an excellent gateway and opportunity to speak about big wind and wind power.

The goal of the day is to make people aware of wind power and its applications. The impact of wind power and how it may transform the world is honored all around the world on this day through celebration.

It celebrates the greatest natural wind gust ever recorded on the planet’s surface. Winds reaching 231 miles per hour were reported at the Mount Washington Laboratory on April 12, 1934.

The record remained unbroken for generations. The researchers reunited at the station in 1984 to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of the record-breaking big wind.

Although we cannot actually see the wind, we could only see and sense its impacts. Our activities would never be the same without wind, from waving flags in the breeze to listening to the rustle of plants, to feeling its soothing effect on a scorching, humid afternoon.

Air pollution is carried away from the surface by the wind. On occasion, the wind may produce heavy storms both on the sea and on the ground.

Carbon-emitting energy sources for generating electricity would be a relic of the past as wind technology progresses and becomes more inexpensive. It will result in a world that is fresher and more enjoyable.

Interesting facts About National Big Wind Day:

1.  The most rapid celestial winds in the Planetary System are Saturn and Neptune. Cold wind occurs because Sun heat takes more time to reach the water than that of the ground, causing a discrepancy in atmospheric pressure. An Anemometer is used to monitor wind speed.
2. The German physicist Albert Betz was the inventor of the technique for wind turbines.
3. It is estimated that by 2030, about 30 trillion water bottles will be saved in the USA. World’s largest wind turbine is in Hawaii, USA.
4.  Windmills were first introduced to the USA in the mid-1700s. In the colonial possessions, turbines were a frequent appearance. Windmills have been used to process maize and grain, while sawmills used them to chop down wood.
5.  Hurricanes and sea cyclones are both extremely destructive. Wind gusts may reach speeds of over 155 miles an hour, while the hurricane can reach speeds of over 350 mph.
6.  The first wind turbines created were in Persia and China. Former sailors used wind power to travel to other locations while the cultivators used it to pump the water and thaw the crops.

The Mount Washington Station reported winds of 231 miles an hour on 12th April. Big Wind Day celebrates the world’s greatest wind speed.

This day is an American celebration on 12 April each year.

The founder or source of this day is not yet found for our study. Nevertheless, researchers have found it observed this occasion for decades.

There is indeed a plethora of information to explain this event and why it is called a National Day. People have not, unfortunately, found any governmental or Parliamentary documents for this day. Even if we didn’t, it’s still a national holiday for celebration. Have fun and rejoice with that as well!
