Why Cheese Ball Day?
The origin of the cheese ball is traced back to 1801, where Elisha Brown, Jr. prepared it for President Thomas Jefferson!
But it was only in 1944 that the recipe was printed by Virginia Safford in the cookbook Food of My Friends.
One of the reasons to celebrate Cheese Day is that it’s very easy to make! And the ingredients are a staple at everyone’s home! To make a cheese ball all you have to do is add some softened cheese as a base and go on adding whatever you or your crowd loves to have in a cheese ball dip! Once you put in all the ingredients, mix and turn it into one giant or many small cheese balls! You can roll your cheese balls into chopped nuts and herbs for a royal look! You can keep your cheese balls plain or go overboard with all the fancy ingredients -both ways you will love them!
Another reason to celebrate Cheese Day is that it brings all nostalgia! Memories of the days when life was simple, meat and cheese hadn’t yet become “charcuterie,” and when you could enjoy your meal without all the fancy napkins and different purpose forks!
As much as they are easy to make, they are delicious too! It’s really rare to find people who wouldn’t love cheese! The cheese ball recipe has only one prerequisite – the cheese! And you can unapologetically add the dip ingredients of your choice! So, it is one of the highly customizable recipes you could ever find on the menu! You can go for a plain and mild cheese ball for kids and spicy, jittery, sweet ones for the adults!
The cheese balls also make a great decor piece at the dining table! You could design your cheese balls into different shapes and figures like the snowman, pineapples, pinecones, or any other ideas you got! If you don’t have the time nor the patience to decorate your cheese balls, don’t panic! The cheese balls themselves are fancy for any guest!
This day celebrates the cheese puffs too! They are puffed corn coated with cheese mixture or cheese flavored powders. This snack comes as small round balls as the heated corn dough are passed through a die that gives it a round shape! This snack tastes delicious too!
No matter which cheese ball you want to celebrate, both are great in their way! If you love them both, no one is going to judge you! it just gives you two solid reasons to celebrate the day!
