Why National Cranberry Relish Day?
The Cranberry Relish is an unusual yet delicious dish made using Horseradish and Cranberries. It gives a spicy yet sweet flavor!
The Cranberry Relish is believed to have originated in New England during the early 1900s. However, the recipe wasn’t popular until the early 1950s.
A radio program named The Splendid Table hosted by the American Public Media was the original catalyst in introducing the recipe to the world during the 1950s. The host of the program, Lynne Rossetto Kasper managed to bring Chefs from everywhere to share their delicious and unique recipes with the audience.
However one fine day, during the morning edition, Susan Stamberg called in to share her recipe. Kasper’s discussion with Susan Stamberg about bringing out the extraordinary from the ordinary gave birth to Mama Stamberg’s Cranberry Relish!
Many of us could get fooled with its untasty sound but when included in your Thanksgiving dinner, it is sure to surprise you and give a jolt to the celebrations!
You might wonder how different is a Cranberry Sauce from a Cranberry Relish? The difference lies in the addition of Horseradish along with sour cream and onions!
Since the 1950s, the Cranberry Relish has added to the celebrations inspiring a new Thanksgiving routine as they enjoy the spicy and delicious Cranberry Relish along with their turkey! And that’s why we celebrate the National Cranberry Relish Day!
