Why National Homebrew Day?
Since the prohibition from the 1920s, it was not until the year 1978 when home brewing beer became free of taxation and legalized by President Jimmy Carter. Homebrewing is one of the top hobbies pursued by the countrymen and National Homebrew Day is a celebration of this practice. The American Homebrewers Association brings together many homebrewers on this day and holds a competition between them to make some of the most delicious and officially acclaimed recipes for making beer.
Surprisingly, there are a variety of homebrewers with each having a style and recipe of their own. Some homebrewers stick to the honored traditions from time immemorial while others would love to experiment with the flavor and gain an edge in the making. The day was founded by the American Homebrewers Association who presented the idea to congress in the year 1988. As per the same, the day is observed every year on the first Saturday in May.
