Why No Housework Day?
With the advent of the industrial revolution, more men began to leave homes for work and the responsibility of housework by default fell on the women of the house. With no proper equipment, cleaning was a more painful task than it was today. With all the modern electric gadgets to keep our homes spic and span, it still feels like a herculean task for many people.
Although in the 21 century, men are more open to sharing the housework responsibilities, most still think it is a women-centric role and in reality, they do most of the work at home.
So this day is for all the women and men out there who have been faithfully doing housework all year round! While there will be many who wouldn’t agree on this, it’s alright!
Unless you are very fond of housework, we all feel it is a boring task. And not being able to do it one day is a win! It is also healthy to take a break! Put down those cleaning tools and appliances and enjoy the day.
It’s mentally and physically relaxing not to be stressed or judged about not doing your housework! So postpone all the dishes, dusting, sweeping! Let your vacuum cleaner, washing machine, and mop enjoy the break too!
It certainly doesn’t mean that you have ignored the necessary sanitary needs but feel free to leave dishes in the sink, toys on the floor, cluttered books on the table, and the clothes unfolded!
Dread certain chores? It’s a fantastic opportunity to postpone them for the next 24 hours! Anything that’s screaming “clean me” can be ignored without feeling guilty! Deep cleaning or spring cleaning can be scheduled for any other day.
Is there a movie or a book that you wanted to catch up on? unfulfilled promise to visit your friend? No time to whip up that new cake recipe? want to stretch and relax those muscles in a hot bath? Or just enjoy the stroll outdoors with a little shopping? Today is your day!
It’s also a perfect day to chill out with the rest of your family! This day is much needed if you are working for an employer and take care of work at home. So, rejuvenate your body, mind, and soul with soothing music, a glass of wine, or a bowl of ice cream as you see fit!
So ignore your household chores completely and soak in the free feeling. Use the time to focus on the important matters of your life!
