Why National Red Nose Day?
Red Nose Day raise funds to benefits children on grounds of safety, Health, Empowerment, Education and Crisis Response. It makes strenuous efforts to reach through the children so that they need not to wait for basic needs.
Red Nose Day determines to change the lives of children and to create a positive environment for the needy. “WE ARE FOR YOU” is the basic propaganda that gives hopes to the lives of Children.
Though a lot is done already, still a lot more to do as child Poverty is too complex and still many countries strive hard to combat. The remedy of engaging in a group to fight against this would not be enough to overcome this crucial crisis. The world must come together to make the future generation prosperous.
Red Nose Day provide free lessons on this day to build community and to strengthen their skills. The Program also organizes “Celebrity Escape Room” that is star stud including famous celebrities like Ben Stiller, Jack Black, Courtney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Adam Scott, Mandy Moore and Justin Hartley.
Not only that, Red Nose Day acts as a driving force in making celebrities and other political figures visit other countries to witness the situations that in turn make them fund raisers!
The Red Nose Day Charity has changed the lives of nearly 25 million children in America and around the world. And, without halting, it motivates others to become a member and to take part in fighting against this social evil.
The day not only concentrates the 25 million American Children but also the 350 million children who suffers from extreme poverty. With the rise in Covid Cases, the responsibility also increases as additional million Children are pushed into Poverty with around 10 million children forced not to return to schools due to the impacts in family income.

Zero Child Poverty: A child may be born in poverty, but never should die in poverty. The day is created to achieve “Zero Child Poverty World”. The whole mankind should put our head on shame if a child dies impoverished. The donations should cross the boundaries and the developed countries should give hand to the poorest countries to lift them up from this crisis. It will not be demolished by single attempt but only through successful steps to reach the ladder of Zero Poverty.

As the National Red Nose Day stands to alleviate child poverty and to save children from various crisis, Let’s see some undeniable facts on Child Poverty.
Though the United States is one of the developed countries in the world, still children of our country suffer from poverty. Around 20% of the children live in families under the federal poverty threshold, the version of federal poverty measure which is updated on a yearly basis by the census burea. And the global statistics estimates that around One billion children are impoverished and deprived of basic needs that includes Drinking Water, Food and Shelter.
It is to be note that One Billion is about 1 in 2 children around the world. Nearly Half of the future world suffers from at least one essential need.
Though the Child Development Index of developed counties is 2.1, In 2013, child poverty reached a high record in the United States, with 16.7 million children, that is more than 20%, living in food insecure households. Households led by Single Mother are the mostly affected.
As per the 2018 record, around 21% of children lives below Poverty threshold. The increased number of “Single Mothers” also cited as a major reason for child Poverty followed by the lack of illegitimacy, teen pregnancy, etc. It is also figured out that Children born of unintended pregnancies are affected more.
As per the record of 2018 survey, U.S comes third following Israel and Chile. As per the 2019 record, it has decreased to 18%. As the pandemic strike the world by early 2020, it is feared that the percentage would have been increased drastically. COVID is the deadliest disease in American history as around 120 million are infected in just one Year. Though of money allocated to overcome the issue, it could not tackle with the rapid increase in the number of daily cases. The whole global economy is thrashed and our country is not an exception.
In US, The Six out of Ten Children in poverty are from Single-parent Families.
The recent study in 2021 states that around 11 million children are impoverished in the United States that equalize the one third of Americans living in Poverty.
UNICEF estimates that in global level, around 356 million Children live in extreme poverty.
US school concentrates mainly on poorest kids by accounting the cycle of poverty. “Cycle of Poverty” is when family live in poverty for many generations. By segregating the Children, Schools in U.S tries to attenuate the rise of impoverished children.
It takes 4 to 5 generations for a poor family to attain Average National level of Income. Children who face poverty are forced to early marriage and Child Labor.
Due to the Covid Pandemic, Childhood poverty increased by 10% between 2019- 2021.An additional of around 150 million children were trapped into this serious disaster. It is expected that at least 10 million children would not return to schools as were pushed into below poverty line because of COVID.
Due to this pandemic, the recession is in unprecedently high and the unemployment rate rose to around 15% which further attributed to Childhood poverty. Though several NGO and Charities struggle hard to help the needy, it is beaten up by severe hike in cases.
History of National Red Nose Day:
Ethiopia is an African country with main economy based on Agriculture. 80% of the population are poorest and solely depend on crops production. The failure of monsoon and other factors led the country to face famine more often.
A Famine in Ethiopia that led to Comic Relief:
The 2-year famine in Ethiopia is one of the worst famines in the world. Though famines in Ethiopia is a periodic disaster that affects “a part of” or the whole country, The 1983- 1985 famine is callous that has led around 1.2 million people to die out of hunger and the other theory according to Human Rights Watch, an internal Non-Government Organization, estimates that 50% of the mortality could be due to Human rights abuses. The Human Rights watch further states that it is the Human Rights abuses which had led this to this famine, otherwise it would have been at least not this much earlier. This drought is also considered to be the consequence of Ethiopian Civil war from 1974 to 1991 which in turn crashed the country’s infrastructure and the economy.
Around 400000 refuges left Ethiopia and migrated to various countries seeking asylum. Over 20000 children were orphaned.
The New was broke out By BBC and its crew was the first to document this extreme Famine. The newsreader described this disaster as “Closest thing to hell on earth”. The Future of the Country is out of hope and the Development of Economy is doomed.
This heart wrenching documentary created a world-wide shock and the whole world extended its support by delivering Food and other items to the starving people through airdrops. The people of Britain inundated and provides substantial fund through “Save the Children” to improve the lives of innocent children suffering from starvation.
The help had become pandemic and other Countries like United States extended its help through various organizations. This famine has become an eyeopener to other countries to help and support Ethiopia and other international emergencies. This has led to only 300 deaths over 13.2 million facing starvation by the year 2003 in Ethiopia. And the main thing to be noted is there is no significant increase in child mortality which is mainly due to the steps taken to provides basis needs such as access to Food and water. If not , this would have been a peril as like the 1984 disaster.
In 1985, British Comedy writer Richard Curtis and British comedian, Lenny Henry co-founded Comic Relief, a Charity that would help Ethiopia. The founders directly wen to Ethiopia and observed “National Red Nose Day” which raised 15 million Pounds. The prominent purpose of the day to help the Children in need, to support international emergencies and to alleviate poverty.
“No children should die of Hunger” is the main motto of Red Nose Day which was started to be observed from 2015. By 2019, The Red Nose Day USA, founded by Comic Relief Inc had raised around 145 million dollars to attenuate child poverty.
The 2017 Red Nose Day campaign solicits donation $35 million. Just two years within the launch, it had crossed the target of $100 million through Red Nose Day.
The 2018 is biggest campaign that raised around $42 million that including various celebrities’ appearances that incorporated huge sponsors.
Due to the Pandemic crisis, The Red Nose Day of 2019 did not attract visitors. And the Subsequent years observance has become an online event.
