The National Tweed day is celebrated on two different causes. one is on behalf of Tweed, a woolen Fabric and another is to recognize the leadership of a politician “William tweed”. Since his date of birth falls on April 3.However, it is being widely celebrated for Scottish tweeds rather than William Tweed

Tweed is a woolen cloth. It has soft, flexible features. Colors in Tweed can be obtained in a mixture of relevant colored dye before spinning. Tweed is made to cope up with the severe climate condition

Tweed(Fabric):
The original name of the cloth is not tweed, its Tweel actually. It was reported to entitle this name because of some misinterpretation. During the year 1831, A merchant from London misunderstood the handwriting in a letter, which he received from Dangerfield’s Mills ran by Wm. Watson and sons of Hawrick town. He misread the word as Tweed and subsequently thought this name as a trade-name inspired by River Tweed.In addition, The clothes were advertised as tweed instead of Tweel. Thus, this cloth has taken the name “tweed”.
Tweed(Boss):
After conviction, he escaped from jail once, fled to Spain, and worked as a seaman on a ship. The government of United States investigated his whereabouts and was taken back to the custody in the Year 1876.Later in 1878 he died because of acute pneumonia and was the flag at Tammany Hall, where he was at his peak during his tenure was not flown at half –mast.

Harris Tweed is made from virgin wool and is the only handwoven tweed produced in the world for a commercial purpose. Donegal Tweed is manufactured in County Donegal, Ireland for centuries and plants like blackberries, whins, Moss, fuchsia provide dyes. Silk Thread is produced by raw silk and woolen fabrics are added further for decorative consistency.
Previously, tweed was worn by upper-class People. In modern days, especially jackets made up of Tweeds are commonly used even in middle-class families. A Dress made up of the Tweed were a great choice due to its durability.
Tweed cloth is used to cover some of the musical instruments to protect against internal damages.

William Magear Tweed was born on April 3, he left his schooling at the age of 11 and became an apprentice. Later he started doing his family business in 1852.He married Mary Jane C.Skaden and joined a Fire company in the year 1844 and 1848 respectively. In 1848, he formed a company named “Americus Fire company” along with his friends. He became famous for violence, which is very common within the Fire companies due to fierce competition. Moreover, the fire companies were considered to be the recruiting agencies for Political parties. Thus, eventually results in Tweed becoming a notorious Politician.
William Tweed was seized by police for mishandling the public money and sentenced to imprisonment where he died in 1878 due to Pneumonia. He was convicted for stealing an amount of 45 million, approximately from the taxpayers of New York. However, later it was re-estimated to around 200 million dollars.
