A memorial worth $29 million raised by public funds was built on behalf of this day to pay respect to the ones who lost their lives.The same day and time is also observed as a remembrance of the attack on a yearly basis. The annual marathon was conducted on this day following a 168-second silence to the lost 168 lives to raise funds for the victims as well.
Though many people waited inside the building during the explosion and sought help from the rescuers and volunteers.Few of them those fled out of the building in order to escape were getting caught in the crowd which has slowed the evacuation.Hence, to overcome such situations in future, evacuation procedures and routes for the civilians were implemented by the Federal Highway Administration.

History:
The chief plotters were McVeigh and Nichols, who planned this attack due to their hatred towards the U.S federal government on dealing with Ruby Ridge and Waco Siege Tragedies.Thus, he planned to bomb the Federal Building as a revenge.As per the plan, he drove his rented truck filled with explosive materials and made to detonate the bomb on exactly by 9:02 to coincide with the Waco Siege fire incident.
Immediately after about one and half hours of the violent attack, Timothy McVeigh was arrested on the charge of no license plate number and possession of weapons.Meanwhile, the forensic investigation has clearly stated the connection of McVeigh with the explosion and also the Nichols involvement in it.hence both of them were arrested soon after the attack.
The final verdict was released in the year 1997 and both of them were convicted after several trial attempts along with their co-conspirators Michael and Lori, McVeigh sister. McVeigh was executed by injecting a lethal drug which was telecasted just as a witness to death.Nichols was sentenced to life imprisonment whereas Michael is sent to jail for 12 years due to his involvement in scouting the federal building and also levied 75000$ as fine for not warning the government regarding the plot. His Wife Lori was also convicted on the charge of faking a driver license for her brother, but escaped from punishment after agreeing in testifying against the main conspirators. Michael was later released for his good conduct.
