Why Air Force Birthday:

The purpose of this day is to raise public awareness of the value of national security and to honour those who put their lives in danger to preserve the safety and prosperity of the nation. A significant chapter in the history of American air power is devoted to this branch of the armed forces.

The U.S. military acquired its first aircraft only six years after the first successful aeroplane was developed in 1903 and tested. The Aeronautical Division, the first military aviation organisation ever, was founded by the U.S. Signal Corps in 1907 with the hope that their new invention would be a huge success.

Years later, when it came to aerial combat, the Aeronautical Division was, however, undersized and insufficient. After the challenges of World War II, it was obvious that airpower would become even more important in the years to come.

The American Army established the Aeronautical Division of the Signal Corps on August 1 of that year, laying the groundwork for the future Air Force. In the end, this section became the Signal Corps’ Aviation Section, which existed from 1914 until 1918. This department was given the names US Army Air Service and US Army Air Forces as it expanded over time.

The first existed between 1918 and 1926, while the second did so between 1941 and 1947. However, the leadership of the Armed Forces realised that a fundamental organisational shift was required for the United States Military Forces to remain a strong fighting force as the role of airpower became increasingly obvious to them during World War II.

On September 18, 1947, the United States Air Force and the Department of Defense were established as a result. The United States’ national security was restructured in 1947 according to the National Security Act. The Joint Chiefs of Staff, the CIA, and the National Security Council were all established in addition to the Air Force being split from the Army.
