Why National Compliment Day?
The tongue is a small organ in our mouth that facilitates the sensation of taste and enables us to speak. If you think it’s just that, you have underestimated your tongue, my friend. It is one of the most dangerous weapons in the world, if not used wisely! The tongue has the power to make someone’s day or break it! So how about we use it for some good purpose? Such as giving out a compliment.
Complimenting is an expression of praise or admiration for someone or something. Mark Twain, an American writer, humorist, entrepreneur, publisher, and lecturer once said that he can live for two months on a good compliment (provided he gets enough food and water). So how does this small act make a big difference on a person’s day?
According to studies conducted by various behavioral psychologists, compliments are a very powerful tool that can uplift the overall mood and productivity of an individual. It is free of cost yet has a great value to it.
There are numerous benefits that compliments provide:-
Motivation- When a person is appreciated for the job he or she has done, it motivates them to work harder and do an even better job. People who don’t feel appreciated for the jobs they do are more likely to be less productive than the people who feel appreciated and complimented. Leading companies and institutions often take time to evaluate their employees’ work rate and give them recognition, which has a positive effect on the employees and results in greater productivity.
A win-win deal-Studies have shown that giving out compliments is beneficial for the receiver as well as the person who is giving it. It shows that you are a keen observer and that you notice the tiny details and efforts done by others and in the long run, build trust among the individuals. The act of giving out a compliment makes you feel more confident and good about yourself as it is something that people usually find difficult to do, even if they wanted to. We’ve all been in that situation where we thought of complimenting someone but chucked it off as we were too much concerned about what they might think. There’s nothing but positivity to it.
Makes you more approachable -A person who gives out compliments, notes and acknowledges the small efforts taken by others are often more approachable than the people who don’t. Such people are more likely to be productive in their workplace and social life and of course, who doesn’t want to be around a person who spreads positive vibes!
There are different ways to compliment such as complimenting someone’s character, their new haircut, or for the work they do. The more you add the merrier! Let’s spread happiness through our words in this lonely world!
