Interesting Facts About Different Colored Eye Day:
The most common human eye color is brown. 70 to 90% of the population have brown colored eye ,whereas, the percentage of different colored eyes in human is below 1% of the total population.
As we all know, the proportion and distribution of melanin pigment determines the skin and eye colour. The uneven distribution of melanin pigment leads to heterochromia,a disease which cause discoloration in human eye.
Heterochromia occurs due to genetic inheritance or previous injuries or diseases.In addition, it may also occur due to glaucoma, inflammation, Waardenburg syndrome (genetic disease) and neurofibromatosis.
Heterochromia is categorized into 3 types depending on the discoloration. In complete heterochromia, both Iris are of entirely different color.In partial heterochromia,only a part of Iris will be of different color. Partial Heterochromia is otherwise called as sectoral heterochromia. In central heterochromia ,only the inner ring of the Iris will be of different color.
The heterochromia not only affects human but also other mammals such as cats,dogs.

Dark brown- common in America, Africa, Europe , east and south east parts of South Asia.
Light brown – common in throughout Asia and in some parts of Europe and America.
Gray – come on in southern and northern Europe, south Asia, central Asia and Middle East Asia and in northwest Africa.
Green – can be seen throughout Europe. Green is the combination of light brown and blue iris.
Hazel – most common in Caucasian race.
Red and violet – occurs due to albinism ,a disease caused due to inadequate melanin pigment.
In spite of the fact that it don’t have any health risk factors, it is better to consult an opthamologist immediately if you notice such discoloration in infants or newborns in order to check for any other possible health issues.
