Why National Dress in Blue Day?
The National Day celebrated every first Friday of march always tends to be a little special. On this day, we get to wear blue as the name suggests and create public awareness about Colon Cancer so that the people who remain ignorant of colon cancer will get to know about it.
We have been celebrating this day every year to create awareness and celebrate this day, and we tend to offer support and motivate the ones suffering and fighting Colon Cancer. We utilize this day by showing people that they are not alone and stronger than what they think they are.
The celebration of this day and its full credits goes to a person named Anita Mitchell. She is the founder of Colon Cancer Stars. She is the one who made it normal to talk about Colon Cancer. She suffered from Stage IV of Colon Cancer at the age of 35. And since she had lost her father and a friend to this disease, she thought she should not let this be hidden and create public awareness about this. Thus came the celebration of the National Day, i.e., National Dress in Blue Day.
This is being celebrated so that people with Colon Cancer and others also get to know about the causes of the disease and how and all the disease could be prevented. By wearing blue, we tell people that it is normal to talk about Cancer and take preventive measures. We also look up to this day to honor the patients we have lost due to Colon Cancer. In the memory of the dead ones, this day is being celebrated annually.
By organizing and celebrating the National Dress in Blue Day, we reduce the death rates due to colon cancer and raise money for screening, public awareness, and more research purposes. Thus, on this day, the first Friday of March, we all gather together and stand united to create public awareness, show support, and prevent deaths due to Colon Cancer.

Anita Mitchell suffered from Colon Cancer at the age of 35. She was diagnosed with Stage IV of Colon Cancer. What made her create public awareness was her father’s death and one of her friends who had passed away due to Colon Cancer. She felt that no more should people feel shy to talk about this disease, so she found this day to celebrate.
This day was first organized in her children’s school in 2006. Later, this gave her the idea to celebrate this as a National Day in 2009 and thus emerged the National Dress in Blue Day!
