History of National Night Out Day:
National Night Out Day was introduced by Matt Peskin, a volunteer of the Lower Merion Community Watch program. He started observing neighborhood watches during the 1960s. However, there was no connection between these groups.
After 10 years of observation, Peskin founded his group the National Association of Town Watch in 1970. His group was linked with all neighborhood watches to provide resources. He started this holiday three years after founding his group.
The first celebration started with 2.5 residents from 400 communities. He created a large network of civilians, crime prevention associations, law enforcement agencies, and neighborhood watch groups. The Dog Walker Watch also joined this program a few years back.
