Why Research Administrator Day?
Research is the process of discovering new information that can be used to make an impact on the world or disrupt the normal modus operandi of things. The research administrator’s job consists of multiple roles including but not limited to overseeing, reviewing, interpreting, and much more. Thus research administrators diligently work on various levels to achieve accurate results. They assist the team and researchers and guarantee the right maintenance of sponsored research money.
Research administrators greatly reduce the load on top management so they can achieve their goals regarding core activities and ensure overall objectives are met. They can be found in a variety of fields such as health, education, business, and other public and private organizations.
Their roles are multidimensional and have a sharp eye for the crucial aspects of a project. They keep the entire project running on the track. Their management allows others to maintain focus on their individual roles instead of getting tangled in administrative work.
Research Administrators are in high demand across many sectors. Their roles are not limited to the health and medical institutions and research facilities but also can be witnessed in the higher education colleges, research universities, and for-profit, and non-profit organizations as they continue to rely on their knowledge and direction!
Research administration initially started in the 1940s as a small niche and unpopular career option but now this field has grown beyond our imagination. To applaud the dedication and hard work of research administrators in various fields, the National Council of University Research Administrators (NCURA) in August 2015 submitted an appeal to observe National Research Administrator Day. September 25 was officially declared Research Administrator Day. NCURA is a non-profit organization for research administrators that is committed to supporting research and members!
Research administration demands certain academic qualifications to enter the field. However, your performance and achievements in your field are directly proportional to your passion and capabilities.
We need to celebrate Research Administrator Day because:
- It’s an underappreciated job
Research administrators have a thankless job and get overlooked or looked down upon easily in large organizations. However, their contribution is extremely crucial to a project and their efforts should not go unnoticed. This day encourages us to appreciate and encourage these unsung heroes.
- The job requires great will
Research is not easy. It needs a lot of planning, critical thinking, analyzing, interpreting, and much more. All of these tasks drain your brain tremendously and quickly! Thus only people with a strong will are more likely to complete their research and be successful in their research careers.
- Promotes Research Related Jobs
Many do not consider becoming research administrators mainly due to the lack of information regarding what research administrators do and their significance in conducting research. Thus this day also helps promote the importance and the various career growth opportunities in the field of research!
