Why National Tater Tot Day?
If we think about the best holiday ever created, the first thing that comes to my mind is a day created for celebrating the creation of delicious bites of potatoes.
These delicious pieces of heavenliness were made from the extra scrap left after making french fries and were always a side dish. Still, the question is how these small bites became a big snack, consumed by almost every American, and the answer is through diligence and passion.
Two siblings, Nephi and Golden Grigg, initiated fiddling with frozen victuals when they leased a plant on the Oregon and Idaho borders in 1934. They focused on making French fries and scrap, and potato mash left after the production of french fries was fed to cows, but serving all that to the cows seemed to be irrelevant. This made them think about it, and they decided not to waste the opportunity and extra material they have and come out with a solution to increase their productivity profitability.
They came up with a new recipe and added it to their product line, adding it to their menu.
By 1952, they bought the plant, creating the Oregon Frozen Foods Company that later become Ore-Ida.
