History of National Voter Registration Day:
On September 25, 2012, the National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS) established the first National Voter Registration Day. The NASS based the official day of National Voter Registration Day on September 25, 2012.
On the first day of the observance, 2012, more than 300,000.00 Americans registered to vote. In 2018, that number rose to 800,000. This day ensures that eligible voters are registered in their respective districts annually. Each state also receives valuable information from the awareness campaign. The day is timed to be delivered just a few months ahead of some of the more significant elections in the year.
