History Of Friendship Day:
The idea for this day in Paraguay was first put out in 1958 by Joyce Hall. It was a day to honour friendships on a public holiday. Due to the desynchronization in the US, the celebration’s original date of 2 August has been changed to 7 August. Winnie the Pooh was appointed the UN’s global ambassador for friendship by Nane Annan in 1998 in recognition of Friendship Day.
The U.N. Department of Public Information, in collaboration with Disney Enterprises, organised the event, which Kathy Lee Gifford served as co-host for. An example of the efforts made at the time in this regard is the 1935 resolution by the US Congress to commemorate a day in commemoration of friends.
Despite the fact that today’s precise purpose is unknown due to the damage brought on by the First World War, it is still essential. It was intended that the occasion would contribute to the eradication of mistrust, hatred, and prejudice between people of different nationalities by strengthening tight relationships of worldwide goodwill.
For a number of years, the World Friendship Crusade formally requested that the UN declare July 30 to be World Friendship Day. In 2011, the UN General Assembly finally made the decision to do so and requested that all of its members mark the International Day of Friendship in line with their distinctive local, national, and regional customs, including through outreach programmes to educate and raise public awareness.
